The Darien YMCA Sports Department will once again this fall be offering our Youth Volleyball program. The program will be led by Erin McHugh. Erin played volleyball locally at Stamford High School where she was voted team captain, All-FCIAC and All-State. She went on to play at Division 1 Long Island University again being voted team captain and All-NEC. Erin still continues to play competitively in multiple adult leagues.
This program will be offered to girls in Grades 6th, 7th, and 8th. Coach Erin and her staff will teach the players the fundamental aspects of the sport through creative drills and multiple team competitions as well as scrimmages. Players will be split into two groups for focused development. These groups will change from week to week to strengthen team dynamics.
Program begins: September 13th
Program ends: November 3rd
No class during April vacation

6th-8th Grade
For beginners and the experienced. This level will emphasize the basic fundamental skills of volleyball. Athletes will learn how to pass, set, spike, dig and serve. Progressive drills and mini-games will be used to help give athletes a better understanding of volleyball. This level will help prepare athletes planning to play competitively at the high school level and for those who just want to learn the sport. All activities will focus on developing confidence and skill while promoting enjoyment of the sport.
